SAFE LOADING OF SKIPS
Loose or light material such as paper, soil, sand etc, should whenever possible be bagged up and placed as low as possible in the skip with all heavy material on top. The skip must not be overloaded at any time. The level should not exceed the skips front and rear edges. Items such as cardboard boxes and wood frames should be placed at or near the base of the skip so the heavier loads will serve to compress and break down these items to maximise the space available.
Rigid Items should whenever possible be broken down before placing in the skip.

HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES/MATERIALS
Hazardous Substances should be identifiable by the label adhered to the container or directly on the container itself. Hazardous warnings will be in the form of a picture or heading such as, TOXIC CORROSIVE, FLAMMABLE/INFLAMMABLE, IRRITANT. It is very important all such materials be kept in their original containers and sealed, if not in its original container it must be identifiable.
Flammable Gas Canisters must not be placed in a skip as they present a risk of explosion if you attempt to crush or burn them.

LPG
Tipping an LPG canister on its side may cause it to leak which can burn when coming into contact with the skin. In gas form it is highly flammable.

ASBESTOS
Identified ASBESTOS must not be placed in a skip even if it has been bagged up. This is regarded as SPECIAL WASTE and is subject to specific regulations for handling, removal and transportation. The risk from ASBESTOS maybe present in a number of old building materials even bricks. If in any doubt seek advice!

REFRIGERATORS and FREEZERS
The Law on recycling refrigerators (The Ozone Depleting Substance Regulation 2037/2000) changed in November 2001 and we are no longer able to accept fridges and freezers.
